Let’s talk about earplugs. Some hate them, some love them, and most of us know the damage of high sound levels but not the good solutions.
I want to share with you my favorite earplugs by FLARE Audio.
I have been using them for the last eight years, almost the same pair. I lost one about a year ago, so it’s half the original pair. In my opinion, they helped me hear the music I like better when I’m at parties and festivals.
How I see it, as a person, we absorb frequencies from the environment, and in music, when it’s so loud, our tiny voice in the head tries to compete with the sound levels of the music. But when you use earplugs, they put a barrier between the little voice in the head and the music, which helps maintain the voice in a quiet way and give it more space to be. This helps maintain mindfulness and be more free to “fall” into the complexity of the music because the little voice doesn’t try to compete with it.

• The 120-cell is a 4D regular polytope (a 4D Platonic solid) decomposed into twelve rings, each with ten dodecahedra, totaling 120 cells. In a previous post, I projected six of these rings into 3D, where they twisted into a tree-like shape, losing their ring structure in the process. Here, I’ve selected a set of rings orbiting the tree trunk, which retain their ring shape even in 3D. This aggregate ring contains a total of twenty dodecahedra, each replaced with a porous fractal dodecahedra with five-pointed star-shaped holes.
This time, rather than turning out the lights and exploring the interactions of a flame with the fractals intricate network of fractal holes, I’ve left them on in order to properly explore the structure of the ring itself. •

• Chris Isner’s woodcarving is not merely art; it is an artifact of transformation, a portal into the unseen realms that shaped it. Emerging from a deep engagement with ayahuasca-induced visions and ancestral whispers, his work carries an undeniable gravity—one that seems to defy the very material from which it is carved.
The piece in question, a hauntingly fluid face partially swallowed by the grain of the wood, is a testament to Isner’s philosophy of channeling rather than controlling. The soft undulations of the features suggest a dreamer caught between worlds, eyes closed as if seeing beyond the physical. Most striking is the spiral embedded in the forehead—a motif that evokes ancient symbolism, the unfolding of consciousness, and the infinite regress of vision within vision.
Isner’s work is, at its core, an act of wizardry in his own words—an act of power, of making the invisible tangible. It is not traditional sculpture; it does not seek perfection, nor does it appear planned in any conventional sense. Instead, it breathes. It morphs. It feels as though it was waiting beneath the surface of the wood, and Isner merely freed it. This is what sets his work apart from conventional craftsmanship; it does not impose, it reveals. •

במאמר מוסגר בפוסט הקודם הזכרתי את הרעיון שהדרך הכי יעילה להתמודד עם רעיונות וממים לא רצויים היא להרחיב עליהם ולמסגר אותם מחדש.
לא יצא לי עדיין לכתוב על זה בהרחבה, אבל זה נראה לי חשוב כי הקונספטולוגיה המאגית סובבת סביב הקונספט של מידע, ואם רוצים להבין אותה –ואת העתיד– באופן אפקטיבי, כדאי להבין מידע, איך הוא מתפקד, ואיך עובדים איתו.
אז תרגמתי לכם בינתיים מאמר שעוסק בדיוק בזה.
המאמר נקרא “ממים וממים-נגדיים”, והוא נכתב לפני יותר משלושים שנה, בסוף 1994, על ידי בחור חביב בשם מייק גודווין, שאולי יהיה מוכר לחלקכם בעקבות “חוק גודווין”, שהוא אחד מחוקי האינטרנט הראשונים והמוכרים.
אני באופן אישי די נדהם מכמה זה רלוונטי לימינו, ונראה שזה אפילו הולך ונהיה יותר ויותר רלוונטי. ובכל זאת, המאמר נכתב לפני שלושה עשורים, והרבה מהמונחים שהוא משתמש בהם כדי לתאר את סביבת האינטרנט של פעם כבר לא בשימוש, אז חוץ מתרגום נאלצתי גם להתאים חלק מהמינוח לזמן העכשווי.

היה זה בשנת 1990 שיצאתי בפרויקט של הנדסה ממטית.
המם של ההשוואה לנאצים, כך החלטתי, יצא משליטה — באינספור קבוצות דיון, חדרי צ’אט ופורומים בהם ביקרתי ברשת, הצמדת התווית “דומה לנאצים” או “כמו היטלר” לכל מיני כותבים ברשת ורעיונותיהם הייתה עניין נפוץ ולרוב גם צפוי. זה היה מהסוג הזה של דברים שגורמים לך לתהות איך דיונים אי פעם בכלל התנהלו ללא הפטיש הרטורי השימושי הזה.
לא כולם ראו את ההשוואה לנאצים בתור “מם” — רוב האנשים ברשת, כמו בכל מקום אחר, לא שמעו מעולם על “ממים” או “ממטיקה”. אבל כעת, כשאנחנו חיים בתרבות שנעשית יותר ויותר מודעת למידע, הגיע הזמן שזה ישתנה. וזה הזמן של שוכני הרשת לעשות מאמץ מודע לשלוט בסוגים של הממים שהם יוצרים או מעבירים הלאה.
“מם”, כמובן, הוא רעיון שמתפקד במיינד באופן דומה לזה שבו גן או וירוס מתפקד בגוף. ורעיונות מידבקים (תקראו לזה “ממים ויראליים”) עלולים לקפוץ ממיינד למיינד, ממש כמו שוירוסים קופצים מגוף אל גוף.

עד 1990, שמתי לב שמשהו דומה קרה למם ההשוואה לנאצים. כמובן, יש נושאים בהם מובן מאליו שהשוואות כאלה ייקרו. בדיונים לגבי נשק והתיקון השני לחוקה [האמריקאית], למשל, נוטים מידי פעם להזכיר לתומכי הרגולציה על נשק שהיטלר אסר על אחזקת נשק אישי. ובדיונים על הפלות, המתנגדים בדרך כלל נוטים להתעקש שתומכי הפלות מעודדים רצח המוני, גרוע יותר ממחנות ההשמדה. ובכל קבוצת אקטואליה שבה מתדיינים על צנזורה, באופן בלתי נמנע מישהו יעלה את צל הבלהות של שריפת הספרים הנאצית.

אז, החלטתי לבצע ניסוי — לבנות מם-נגדי המעוצב כך שיגרום למשתתפים בדיון לראות איך הם מתפקדים בתור סוכנים של מם שהוא מטופש ופוגעני במיוחד… ואולי גם להצליח לצמצם את ההשוואות הרשלניות האלה לנאצים.
פיתחתי את חוק גודווין להקבלות נאציות: ככל שדיון מקוון מתארך, ההסתברות שתתקיים הקבלה הקשורה לנאצים או להיטלר מתקרבת לאחת [ודאות מוחלטת].
שתלתי את חוק גודווין בכל קבוצה או שרשור בו ראיתי אזכור מיותר ולא מוצדק לנאצים. מהר מאוד, להפתעתי, אנשים נוספים התחילו לצטט את החוק — המם-הנגדי התחיל להתרבות בכוחות עצמו! והוא אפילו התפתח ועבר מוטציות כמו מם, מייצר צאצאים נוספים, כמו:
• התוספת של מורגן לחוק גודווין: כשהשוואה לנאצים מתרחשת, באופן כמעט מיידי מישהו יתחיל דיון על נאצים בפינות פחות מפוקחות של האינטרנט שעוסקות בצנזורה.
• התוספת של סירקאר: אם דיון מקוון נוגע בנושאים של הומוסקסואליות או היינליין [רוברט היינליין, סופר מד”ב אמריקאי מפורסם], מישהו יאזכר נאצים או את היטלר תוך שלושה ימים.
• התוספת של ואן דר לון: ככל שהקישוריות העולמית משתפרת, הסבירות של נאצים אמיתיים להימצא ברשת מתקרבת לאחת [כן…].
• הפרדוקס של מילר: ככל שהרשת מתפתחת, המספר של השוואות לנאצים שלא נמנעות באמצעות ציטוט של חוק גודווין מתכנסת לאפס [סורי מילר, מי שלא תהיה. לצערי לא חזית נכון…].
במשך הזמן, נראה שהדיונים בקבוצות ובפורומים בהם שתלתי את החוק הציגו פחות ופחות מקרים של השוואות לנאצים. והמם-הנגדי התפתח לצורות אפילו יותר יעילות (כמו שהסופר קליף סטול אמר לי פעם: “חוק גודווין? זה לא החוק הזה שקובע שברגע שטיעון בדיון משתמש בהשוואה לנאצים, היעילות של הטיעון מתפוגגת?”). לפי הסטנדרטים (הדי נמוכים, למען האמת) של עצמי, הניסוי הצליח.
אבל הצלחת הניסוי סיפקה לי הרבה חומר למחשבה.
אם זה אפשרי לייצר ממים-נגדיים אפקטיביים, האם יש איזשהו הכרח מוסרי לעשות זאת? כשאנחנו נתקלים במם רע או שגוי, האם נדרש מאיתנו להתאמץ ולצוד אותו באמצעות מם-נגדי? האם יש לנו מחויבות לשפר את סביבת המידע שלנו? הסביבה החברתית שלנו?
אבל הכוח הזה לעשות טוב עלול להיות גם כוח להרע. לכל אחד ברשת יש את הכוח להשפיע על מחירי מניות (או גרוע מכך: ליצור הונאה בסגנון של בהלת הטיילנול [הוא מתייחס כאן למקרה מ-1982 בו שבעה אנשים מתו כתוצאה מהרעלה של קפסולות טיילנול, כמו אקמול, והסיקור התקשורתי של האירוע יצר פאניקה המונית]).
ממים ויראליים יכולים לגרום לנזק מתמשך [אהמ האשמות של ג’נוסייד אהמ].
אמנם העולם האינטרנטי מלא בחושבים ביקורתיים מגוונים המוכנים לאתגר ממים אנוכיים, אבל אנחנו לא יכולים להסתמך על כך שהגיוון והאינרציה של הרשת יוכלו לענות לכל מם מזיק.
מם ההשוואות לנאצים חסין באופן מיוחד, חלקית בגלל הכוח המתסיס העצום שלו (“אתה קורא לי נאצי? אתה הנאצי בדיון הזה!”).
הדרך הטובה ביותר להילחם בממים כאלה היא לתכנן וליצור ממים-נגדיים המעוצבים כך שהם ממסגרים אותם מחדש.
כנראה שהגיע הזמן להתמסר להנדסה ממטית — עיצוב של ממים טובים כדי להעיף את הרעים.
אחרת, מה שהיה הוא שיהיה.
